Hope and Wishful Thinking

Hope gets a bad name because it is confused with Wishful Thinking: passive, feckless, and the stuff of dreams.

Actually, dreaming is the one thing they have in common. Both Hope and Wishful Thinking are captivated by a different future. But that is where the similarities stop. While Wishful Thinking is content to imagine a new future, Hope leads to…

…generosity

…work

…perseverance

…sacrifice

…resilience

…tenacity

Wishful Thinking evaporates at the prospect of trouble. Hope is forged in it.

…we know that trouble produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope. (Romans 5:3-4)

Wishful Thinking waits for a better future to show up. Hope knows that future is waiting for it to lead the way.

Question:

Which part of your day will be typified by Wishful Thinking, and which by Hope?
