“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.”
Meister Eckhart 1260-1328
It doesn't start like this, of course.
The journey of prayer begins with asking for things: Strength, Help with a Problem, Forgiveness, Courage, Daily Bread, Peace, etc. As we receive what we ask for (even if it is in unexpected ways,) we learn to say, "Thank You."
Prayer changes when we ‘practice’ Gratitude. We no longer wait on answers to appear but begin to seek for all the ways we have been blessed. Through Gratitude, we begin to see the blessings are all around us, waiting for us, even, if we were half awake.
The final stage of Prayer is a life of Gratitude. We now anticipate the ways we will be blessed in all situations even before we ask. We are not grateful because we have been given everything we asked, but because we have ultimately become familiar with The Giver.
It is more than enough.
Where have you seen the provisions of God even before you asked for them?
